When “Operation Raise the Colours” started attaching flags to lampposts, you couldn’t analyse it in the media without the reply, “it’s just people innocently expressing national pride”. Now the same people are travelling to France to intimidate refugees.

Infrastructure in UK cities after several years of cuts is an absolute embarrassment. Today I saw a child and an elderly person fall in icy pavements, and a working age neighbour off with a foot injury. At best, this shows a systemic short sighted way to govern. Another reading is deadly neglect.
