The empirical literature on Richardson's fiscal prescription is not contested. It was bad. The health outcomes were bad. The child poverty outcomes were bad. The housing outcomes were bad. The relational state was undermined for the control and contract state.
Waiting for analysis on the material impact of the Mother of All Budgets, and just how structurally bad it was, instead of analysis on fudge. FFS.

An early evening delivery from the hard working couriers has me tickled pink. I've just received a parcel from my Secret Santa. Very exciting - and now patience. No sneaky-peaks 😇 #SecretSantaAoNZ

My son has been looking for work for a long time. First, before he was studying & then while he studied. He now has some casual work while on break - just 3-5 hours 3-4 days a week in the lead up to Christmas. After all that rejection, so demoralising, he stands a little taller today. #kikorangi

Dear #SecretSantaAoNZ - lucky me to have you! Some thoughts - first, stay within your budget. I'm charmed by second hand finds, I enjoy the garden, tea & coffee. I'm not crafty but appreciate those who are & do enjoy a bit of kiwiana. Whatever you do I hope you have fun!

So this guy's on bsky - probably has been for ages and I'm only just realising. I don't want to see his stuff or engage with his lot - I much prefer the relative calm of this place rather than the other one. If you're like me, might be one for your mute or block list #kikorangi

I’d asked my partner if she’d like to see Prime Minister with me & she declined. After I’d been to the theatre & sharing with sis how I’d found it partner was all “but we were to go together!?” Turns out she thought I was off to see Sir Humphrey Appleby rather than Dame Jacinda Ardern.
A reminder that polls are only as good as their questions (also sampling protocol and timing but you get the idea):

Is it fair if an adult taken into state care as a child and abused, subsequently falls into crime, should be denied an apology and compensation for the abuse as if the crimes erased their history?

If you think No then submit on the Bill by Wed 26 Nov!

I'm reading the new Social Sciences curriculum content and I wasn't prepared for how sad I would feel. We spent thousands of hours working with the previous iteration and the NZ history content and all that enthusiasm and excitement was just killed for something so bad.

Great to see Labour and CGT as the number 1 story on One News. More of this - push the coalition of cruelty off the front page with positive policy alternatives. #nzpol

📣 Germany's close to reversing its opposition to mass surveillance & private message scanning, & backing the Chat Control bill. This could end private comms-& Signal-in the EU.

Time's short and they're counting on obscurity: please let German politicians know how horrifying their reversal would be.
We are alarmed by reports that Germany is on the verge of a catastrophic about-face, reversing its longstanding and principled opposition to the EU’s Chat Control proposal which, if passed, could spell the end of the right to privacy in Europe. signal.org/blog/pdfs/ge...

If you’re not from NZ, saw viral videos of that haka at London’s Nazi rally yesterday, and were very confused by what you saw, check this out so I don’t have to explain a million times over the next few days how Brian Tamaki and his cult aren’t representative of all Māori. Kei te tino ngenge ahau.
Weaponising the haka: Destiny Church’s protest is cultural theft, not free speech
