In his Q&A session yesterday, Farage said that he needed washed up Tories like Jenrick & Zahawi because the candidates winning his party councils around the country don’t know how anything works & can’t effectively govern. So he wants these losers that have experience in government on the team.

It’s good that Elon Musk has backed down in the face of consequences.

But he must still be held to account for what he is: a purveyor of child pornography.

I have not personally used X/Twitter for some time now. It was already an unpleasant place prior to its takeover by Elon Musk but since his acceptance of hate speech and anonymous online abusers, it has become utterly unusable.

This by KCC’s @antonyhook.bsky.social is well worth reading if you’re interested in how local government finances actually work and what the reality is around the claims that Westminster politicians in general and Reform politicians in particular may make about waste and potential savings.
Between now and March you may (and should) see a lot of discourse about local authority budgets.

Please give short shrift to comparisons that politicians like to make between council budgets and a) domestic household budgets or b) the finances of a small or big business.

If we’re honest, the US has pulled the shenanigans it’s pulled in Venezuela before. I think the reason it’s made people normally ok angry with it is down to
1. They didn’t bother running a media campaign to normalise it
2. In the past we knew we could rely on the US to oppose anyone else doing it
