Probably the worst of them all is the Ring doorbell.

It’s sold as safety, but it’s much more about fear and paranoia in a box that turns you against your community. The more of them in the world, the worse our neighborhoods get. Don’t help the spiral continue.

When you’re picking out gifts for friends and family this year, there’s a whole slew of tech products that are better to avoid. I put together a guide to help you through it.

The problem isn’t just historic inequality and how it creates imbalanced systems or destroys capitalism through contradictions. It’s also what intentional precarity as a weapon does to people mentally and emotionally.

80% of people want AI safety laws in place--but tech billionaires are trying to buy a federal ban on state-level AI safety laws.

America's unions won't back down from the fight to protect workers' jobs, rights, and freedoms from Big Tech. Read our letter to Congress below.
America’s unions urge Congress to oppose any provision in the National Defense Authorization Act that would ban states from enacting AI safety regulations and guardrails. Leaders should work for working people, not Big Tech. https://bit.ly/44ibCp1

As I always say when some right-winger starts going on about "red tape that slows innovation", every regulation on the books represents a lesson we as a society learned the hard way, and then encoded so we wouldn't forget. It's someone's blood & pain.
I once knew a Federal bank examiner, and one time someone asked him why we had to KEEP inspecting banks over and over. He basically said every new batch of business school grads invents bank fraud from first principles.
AirBnB CEO calling it “vibe revenue” just 👨‍🍳 😘

The underlying cause of every bubble - debt masquerading as financial innovation - depends on not just short financial memory & speculative neophytism, but reinventing jargon of finance, like how each generation of kids has new ways to say same things.

The Protect America’s Workforce Act, our bipartisan bill to restore union rights to 1 million federal workers, is getting a vote in Congress!

Call your reps NOW and tell them to pass this bill and reverse the Trump admin’s union-busting executive order. https://bit.ly/4r6Ep9M

We all need to say this very clearly:

NO BAILOUTS FOR THEFT-TECH!

Expropriate their asses instead.

They stole from all of us and fully plan to burn the planet.

They owe us - not the other way around. 1/3

One of the most important lessons you have to learn about what a university "is" is a very vulgar marxist distinction between its *managers* (directly or indirectly appointed by capital and/or state government) and its *labor,* who come to the university out of love and idealism.

Struck this morning by how the win wasn’t from the UC system itself pushing back—it was its worker power through *unions* and aligned groups like @aaup.org defending UC interests, even though admin itself wasn’t.
There’s some kind of lesson here
One reason why elite schools (Columbia, Brown, Cornell) caving to Trump’s illegal impoundment and extortion is so galling — a betrayal, really — is that they would have won had they fought. By giving up, they guaranteed every other school will have to fight harder.
