Something that I think the ChatGPT discourse has really clarified for me is what makes people really look down on the notion of "validation" (specifically the tumblr/instagram pop-psychology version of the term).
If we are banning cell phones for kids we need to be talking about banning chatbots for boomers

Gonna be real, you dont need AI at all. Not with references, not with ideas, not to help you brainstorm, nothin. Not in games and especially NOT animation.

You dont need an ass-pat machine to help you and your brain. Ask someone who you trust to give you proper feedback without crushing you.

The older I get, the more my politics mature from childish, naïve beliefs like "the world is complicated and leaders have to make hard decisions" to more serious, adult principles like "hurting people is bad and helping people is good."

AI has actively made life worse for literally everyone

- tech is now more expensive
- you cannot trust most media of reality anymore
- programs barely function
- energy prices
- literal psychosis
- your voice can be literally stolen for evil
- more spyware

but hey, you can avoid paying an artist.

The newest Digital Circus episode is now the second time this year I got flashbanged with a Zach Hadel cameo outside of Smiling Friends.

I now live in fear of where else his voice could spring up.

Sam Altman: hey I made a machine that stole literally all your stuff in order to make CSAM of your child actors, sometimes it encourages people to kill themselves

Disney: Holy shit here's a billion dollars

Altman: the machine loses more than that each week but thank you. Soon it will become god.

Playing a gig tonight. Much like how my last show gave me an Eito Aotsuki jumpscare, tonight's gig has hit me with a Salad Fingers jumpscare in the bathroom.

The funny thing is, even with as low as those numbers are... that's still double the first week sales of Trapt's 2020 album "Shadow Work", XD

masahiro sakurai had to jump through insane amounts of hoops to get sora in smash and disney let zero other disney characters appear at all, even in the background, and yet they're willing to sign away mickey mouse to the "make mickey mouse say fuck and call you a slur" video generator machine?
Disney and OpenAI sign a deal to bring 200+ Disney characters to Sora

Disney makes $1 billion investment in OpenAI and will become a "major" OpenAI customer

When audiences decided the opinion of a critic they read regularly was not as valuable as the thumbs up and thumbs down of 150 random critics, many of whom were only published on their own personal websites. The volume of opinions dwarfed educated ones. That was the first big crack.
What do you think the first death knell of the modern media landscape was? When we started conflating art with content or when we stopped being able to tell the difference between audience and community?

The thing that gets me about this is that even if we wanted to make a positive AI ad, they never showcase AI being used to enhance someone’s day or improve their workflow. There’s no “it allows me to more easily do what I love.” It’s always presented as a failsafe for the dispassionate and incurious
Every ad for AI is like

Person: FUCK!! I don’t know what to get my loved one for Christmas!!!!!! I love them so much!!! Tell me what to do, AI!!

AI: get sock

Title Card: You are literally the smartest person for doing this

nobody needs AI to create graphic novels. ai will, in fact, never be able to create anything worthwhile. you're literally stealing the motivation, training, and confidence to make comics away from these kids you creep, leave them alone!!
