Ok, let’s do this🙄

We’ll start with an explainer covering:

🕒What is a 15-minute city
🏫What on Earth is going on with Oxford
👽Where the conspiracy theories have come from

And then we’ll look at the Telegraph article

Just moments ago the parkway was TAKEN OVER by winter cyclists. At first I thought hundreds, but they just kept coming. Thousands and thousands! I almost cried. I’m so dang proud of MN right now.

Oh, BBC. Jenrick urging British people to 'join the Reform movement' is not news. It's propaganda. Also 'writing in the Telegraph' behind a paywall is not a public announcement. Is it, BBC? Lead story on R3 at half-six.

History often rhymes as the year turns. Romanian dictator Ceaușescu was executed on Christmas Day 1989 just as Panamian dictator Noriega fled following the US invasion. The intervention in Venezuela may shift Washington’s attention from Ukraine but shld also remind 🇺🇸 that Russia is Maduro’s enabler
US strikes Venezuela and says its leader, Maduro, has been captured and flown out of the country
The United States hit Venezuela with a “large-scale strike” and said its president, Nicolás Maduro, had been captured and flown out of the country after months of stepped-up pressure by Washington.

This is simply untenable. There is no way forward with media and political classes captured by the right. Every time someone commits a crime you have to pray it's not an undesirable or it's purge time, then when it turns out to be themselves again they just shrug and wait for the next one.

🚨An important reminder of the trauma faced by asylum seekers.

Not just in fleeing persecution abroad.

Not just in the perilous and desperate journey to these shores.

But by the hatred and vitriol put on them by the right wing in this country for callous political gain.

Hello. I wrote a nice long essay about AI and this very strange moment where we're constantly told we're living in the dawn of a strange new future but the only thing that's actually clear is that everyone feels pretty unmoored and uncertain. I hope you'll read it

My least popular (and most correct) view is that cars should be automatically limited to the local speed limit. Put the pedal to the floor and you still can't go over 25mph in a residential area.

(15 in Manhattan btw)
There is no possible justification for limiting e-bikes to 15mph but not cars.

When traffic flow is more or less continuous, the same number of drivers are going to wait briefly when the lights change. So why not have lights change immediately? Why does it matter which specific drivers are the ones waiting?
How long are you waiting to cross the road? 🚦

Research shows that after 30 seconds pedestrians are more likely to run out of patience and risk crossing the road before the signals change.
