I agree. In many ways, his work feels like what you would get if the French New Wave happened *now* and was influenced by the past 50-70 years of film. He has a huge talent for the language of film and the unusual ability to make it that language visible without being clumsy.

I’m not a journalist or campaign finance guy to start digging this stuff up, but at this point I’d be pretty surprised if he hadn’t been actively recruited for the race by some MAGA-aligned org and had his first ad funded and produced by the same. He didn’t self-fund that slick production.

Given this AM's explosion and partial building collapse in the Bronx, it seems likely Adams will sign this into law. The explosion us almost certainly unrelated to the type of installation this law targets, but the optics would be very poor if he vetoed.

Whether or not this regulation is wise (I don't know), the comparisons to broader norms is deceptive. Housing density and median building size mean the potential consequences for a residential gas fire/explosion in NYC are very different from most other cities.
