As some of you know, I'm working on a project looking at anti-gender/anti-trans politics and its impacts on SOGI asylum/refugee policymaking in Canada and the UK.

I'm looking for interviewees to discuss their experiences as legal professionals, community supporters, and NGO workers.

Please share!

there are many reasons as well as a history of struggle and many people who will take the question and answer in good faith, but I don't know how helpful these comments/questions are on posts where people are trying to figure out how to not die next year because they can't afford health insurance.

I'm genuinely very glad for people who don't have to deal with healthcare here but I'm a little weary of all the "why do americans just accept this? here healthcare's FREE" etc comments on posts by folks who can't afford their monthly premium jumping from $300 to $900 (or 1k to 3k!) in 2026.

If you think that part time faculty in Canada should be paid more than ~$26k/year teaching four courses, should get benefits, and should have a path to permanency, sign + share!

We're on strike for what's already been settled at other universities.

Like who? I can tell personally that she's a poor, often alarmist, reporter but it is very difficult to convince trans people in my life of that without an alternative to point to.

Canada has just lost measles elimination status. The U.S. will undoubtedly follow shortly.

Elimination means that there is no continuous spreading of measles within the country for a year or longer.

Canada and the U.S. have blown it, and it’s largely the fault of the anti-vaccination movement.
Canada loses measles elimination status after three decades, health agency says
Canada has lost its measles elimination status after nearly three decades due to its failure to curb a year-long outbreak, the country's public health agency said on Monday.

A leader would not have lost eight colleagues tonight. This happened because you let it happen or because you’ve totally lost control of the caucus in one of the most important moments since you’ve been Democratic leader. Either way, it’s on you. You need to step down. We need someone who can lead.
Democrats have been fighting for months to address America's healthcare crisis

For the millions who will lose coverage
For people with cancer who won't get the care they need
For working families who can't afford to pay $25K more a year for healthcare

We will keep fighting

They clearly picked people who aren't up next year. They do this all the time. It's never just the defectors who are to blame, because they're all in on it together
so currently defectors are:

Kaine (2030)
Shaheen (Retiring)
Hasan (2028)
Fetterman (2028)
Durbin (Retiring)
CCM (2028)
Rosen (2030)

Important to understand this. There's a reasonable chance that your Dem Senator who voted against it and is acting mad now was in on the play. It's the same reason why they scheduled the surrender for AFTER the election this week. They didn't want people pissed at Dems right before an election.
The caucus meeting was just to orchestrate who would fall on the sword but not be up for a vote in 2026.
so currently defectors are:

Kaine (2030)
Shaheen (Retiring)
Hasan (2028)
Fetterman (2028)
Durbin (Retiring)

The average SNAP benefit per month is $177 a person.

The average ACA benefit per month is up to $550 a person.

People want us to hold the line for a reason. This is not a matter of appealing to a base. It’s about people’s lives.

And working people want leaders whose word means something to them.
