What happened in Venezuela two nights ago is exactly this, and they're not even hiding it: they've essentially invaded and occupied Venezuela and are out loud saying that they're doing it to allow Western oil companies direct and unearned access to the oil reserves in Venezuela.

I'm really scared about what's happening in Venezuela - Carney is already militarizing Canada, and I don't think he will refuse to join the US in it's upcoming wars, like we did when we refused to take a direct role in Iraq, the way his politics are oriented, he's poised to join in.
