Whatever else you think of him, I don't think he is insincere about this stuff, and it should be recognized as extraordinary that he, Pritzker, and other governors are talking about the federal government in these terms. It's not normal political rhetoric, it's the language of existential emergency.

I am glad that today the governor signed a new law repealing New York's ban on providing food and water to people waiting in line to vote. However, it should be clearly noted that this was the result of successful litigation brought by the Brooklyn NAACP -- which the state fought and lost in court.

Peter Sean Brown, a Philly native, should have never been held on an ICE detainer by the Monroe County Sheriff's Office nor should he have faced deportation to Jamaica.
He Was Born in Philly and They Tried to Deport Him to Jamaica
A Florida sheriff ignored proof of Peter Sean Brown’s U.S. citizenship and held him for ICE anyway. A federal court just ruled it was a blatant violation of his Fourth Amendment rights.
