I say again, this does not even approach a scintilla of the accountability that is required. These are PR moves.

Reminder that, as of the latest reports, Liam Ramos is still in prison in Texas - now for 5 days.

His parents are legal asylum seekers with no criminal record.

Every instance in which the Trump administration is forced to make changes, even cosmetic alterations like removing Bovine, is a good sign that US democracy is not yet dead.

Trump wants unchecked power. But public and political opinion still matters - and that should encourage resistance.

This is very cool. And also why I love researching Crimes of the Centuries.
Tell me again history doesn't matter...
New at The Watch:

I dug into archival witness accounts of the British siege of Boston prior to the American Revolution.

They are remarkably similar to what we're seeing in Minneapolis.

The biggest risk in this moment is something sociologists call “symbolic compliance.”

That’s when an institution that is violating civil rights gives the public just enough symbolic victories that accountability efforts lose steam before there has been any meaningful change.

I want to be happy about the Bovino news, but it’s likely window dressing or, worse, he’s just being moved to the next city the administration is going to target. It’s not like these people suddenly grew consciences.

Thank you, Laura! We're very proud of the work we do at Crimes of the Centuries. This week's episode isn't your standard true crime fare.

Now, more than ever, we need people making art. The weirder and more distinct, the better.

To read about something interesting that isn’t all (waves hand around hopelessly), check out Elon’s piece here. There’s a reason a lot of us immersed in historical true crime haven’t bought into the latest “breakthroughs” in the Zodiac and Black Dahlia cases.

So the answer is no.
Q: Did he brandish a gun?

KRISTI NOEM: This individual showed up to impede a law enforcement operation and assaulted our officers. I don't know of any peaceful protester that shows up with a gun and ammunition rather than a sign. This is a violent riot when you have someone showing up with weapons

To those blaming Walz for not mobilizing the Guard, he did that six days ago. I have to say it's disturbing to see people angry at Walz instead of the government agents that just executed a man. As though we should all be experts about what to do when a secret police force invades an American city.

This is fucking insane.
There is video circulating on social media of a group of ICE agents beating a man near 26th and Nicollet in south Minneapolis, then one of the ICE agents shoots the man while he's on the ground numerous times. A witness can be heard yelling that the victim is dead.

This is a fucking nightmare.

For all of the people who have asked me if The Black Dahlia & Zodiac murders got solved at the end of last year, the answer is a resounding, definitive "absolutely hell no."

I know @elongreen.bsky.social got driven insane writing this piece so please give it a read to restore his sanity (and mine)

Dear all journalists -

Just because the president has long believed [X] or has always wanted to [Y], that doesn’t make it, y’know, a thing. Or legal.

Thanks.

Just a reminder that Trump is selling Venezuelan oil and depositing the proceeds into a bank account in Qatar that is NOT under any control by the US government or Congress.

He's just stealing it. It really is that simple.
