I once drew up a list of 13 of my favourite (men’s elite) classics and called them the Holy Thirteen. There are now, erm, 17, but I still think of them as the 17 races of the Holy Thirteen. (Still thinking about the women’s list).

Here they are, with handy emojis (h/t @statsoncycling.bsky.social)

🇮🇹 San-Remo, 🇫🇷 Roubaix and the two puzzles Tadej Pogacar still has to solve

Can he do it in 2026? 👇

Made an omelette sandwich for young master Hare this morning. 2 eggs, lots of sour cream, a slice of cheese, fried in butter. Layered thus: duck rillettes from a jar I got in France, mayo, half an omelette, sriracha, other half omelette, ketchup, all on seeded sourdough.

Dad’s sandwiches = I ❤️ you

Ribeye steak and Fernet and Coke 🇦🇷 at Chimichurris, Southwark Bridge Road SE1. Decently priced, perfectly cooked steak ✅ the Fernet and Coke was less bitter than I’m used to, but maybe that’s how they drink it in Argentina #redharesrestaurants #redharesdrinks

(Brothless) Lanzhou beef lamian 🇨🇳 and spring roll. Yeah, did not expect the brothless bit, was left slightly confused at the counter. It’s become a version of dan dan mian. Still, fairly filling on a cold day, okay as #workscran goes

Despite detesting the finance bros who rock up to a London whisky bar and immediately drain its stock of Pappy, I did find a job in a team of people who are humble, kind, funny, respectful, clever and supportive. Also some of the smartest and most careful investors I’ve met. Good culture does exist.
two tech men having an incredibly annoying meeting next to me in the café and one of them just said "the thing I love about SEO is.....the culture", gobsmacking, beautiful piece of dialogue, would have struggled with it in a sitcom yet he just said it, in real life

Amazing that being an Oxford graduate, a banker and an LBS academic insures you against being wrong.
Truly shocking that Rachel Reeves had the audacity to call herself the U14 girls chess champions when she won the U14 girls chess championship but some bloke thought she was talking about something else.

Chicken rice 🇨🇳 🇸🇬 🇲🇾 from Hainan House, Upper Street N1. This is more a Chinese version rather than the South East Asian ones I’m used to - spiced slightly differently and less peppery, and cooked rare. Quite decent with the sauce though. #redharesrestaurants

The British public voted for Brexit. Why would you trust their judgement about literally anything?

2025 Whamageddon score is 1 day, 9 hours 💥 😵

A whole day better than 2024, and as usual, I’m the first in the family to kark it.

Little Miss Hare managed 9 days last year, and is confident she’ll take the family trophy again.

Two Irish oysters 🇮🇪 and octopus salad 🇬🇧 served in a scallop shell, from Shellseekers, Borough Market SE1. Lots of oyster bars in Borough Market, but I like this one because the prices are reasonable and the helpings quite filling. #redharesrestaurants

The FT is one of the few sane media left.
Feel like I'm going mad. The Budget's 'headroom' is based on frankly irresponsible and wildly optimistic claims about what Labour will do in the final year of the forecast, and on ignoring a bunch of upward pressures on spending, and the claim is that she was being exaggeratedly *pessimistic*?
Suggestion Rachel Reeves exaggerated fiscal pressures is absurd
Chancellor was instead far too optimistic about public finances and government’s ability to secure cuts

It’s the journalists’ job to analyse the information and judge what they may have not been told, not to accept what they’ve been told wholesale.

Breakfast hash (veggie) 🇬🇧 🇺🇸 at KIN Cafe, Foley St W1. Asparagus, sweet potato, broccoli, halloumi and poachies. As decent a veggie breakfast as I’ve ever had, and surprisingly hearty too. Had to redo this post due to a busted hashtag. #redharesrestaurants

If this Labour government deprioritised everything else and focused on one thing, housebuilding, it would still be better for inequality and growth than the heap of half ready, half baked things they’re trying now.

I’ve got a dozen things I’d want to do if I wasn’t working. And I’m not sure I want to stop working.

On top of that, I’m also capable of doing sweet FA for weeks on end, even if I almost never ever got to do so. I’m the laziest person I know.

People just don’t try hard enough.
Mid-50s. Recently inherited enough money to be mortgage-free and not work again, but not enough for Ferraris etc. I've had to make a diary with a "to-do" each day, else I just sit all day and doomscroll. Not sure if I'm happy or not overall.
