Today I learned that John Lasser passed away. I knew he was sick. This is awful. His memory for a blessing.
I regret to relay that Jon Lasser passed away. He was a kind peer and delightful writer. If you read any SFF magazine, you probably read a story of his, and you surely enjoyed it. I'm going to miss him.

Well, this is a fantastic essay, and it makes me very angry to learn that names were mispronounced - AGAIN - at Worldcon.

Well, this is a fantastic essay, and it makes me very angry to learn that names were mispronounced - AGAIN - at Worldcon.
I heard about this from faculty at UO -- I've visited UO repeatedly, this university houses the Le Guin archives, it has a wonderful folklore program, I have great colleagues there in German and Scandinavian and Russian/East European studies and other departments, all this is devastating
A massive attack on several humanities units (Arabic Studies, Judaic Studies, Holocaust Studies, Classics, Religion, German & Scandinavian, Russian/East European/Eurasian Studies) *and* tenure now unfolding at the University of Oregon (a blue state!). Closure of units and faculty layoffs threatened.
