Genuine question: if an artist studies the work of other artists, whether in the canon, or in their fandom or whatever, and is influenced by them in their own work, what is the difference between that and training a model on that same art?

Is it a matter of scale? Or of commercialization maybe?

I need to stop testing my ffmpeg code with the weird artsy movies I like, because I keep not being able to tell whether the output is glitchy (incorrect) or glitchy (art)

I'm really grateful that I'm trans, if only because it taught me that nearly every aspect of who I am can be changed.

People mostly talk about the physical aspects of transition, but I feel like I'm constantly remaking myself—my personality or otherwise—into the type of person I want to be.

Arc Raiders is great. I haven't had emergent DayZ-style ad-hoc coop like this in a long time

Broadcasting Hausu over UHF from a TV transmitter in my garage! Gotta get a better antenna on the receiving end, but I've got most of the equipment I need now for my goofy self-hosted tv station

Bay area privilege is needing a greaseweazle and the very first person you ask both having one, and being excited to help you use it

Just got the weirdest sense of deja vu while looking at an ebay listing for a 30 year old logic analyzer I'm trying to fix, when I noticed it inexplicably came with an unrelated disk that mine also came with.

Then I saw the same visual defects in a picture, and realized it was a listing for my unit

Kyle Kingsbury is not a journalist. He is not an op-ed writer.

He is a computer safety researcher.

And he has written one of the most compelling, comprehensive accounts of the ongoing hell in Chicago that you could possibly imagine.

In under 1600 words.

I always mourned not getting to experience the Cuban missile crisis for myself so I actually love that I'm checking the range of Russian hypersonic missiles and the distance of various US cities from venezuela

I saw Frankenstein this week, and when leaving the theatre, after saying I found it really inspirational, and now I wanted to buy a cockroach to attach electrodes to so I could drive it around with a videogame controller, my date looked at me and said, "I think you took the wrong lesson away"
