A bunch of new people are following me! That's cool!

I'm transmasc and nonbinary. I have ADHD, heavy on the H. I post about music, fancy sports, and my cats. I have been extremely online for 30 years.

I work in education research. Government funding is good, actually.
It's Thanksgiving in the United States, so here's my #PlantsGiving thread of the plant relatives that have been part of my holiday this year. I'm including all the plants I've knowingly consumed since I woke up this morning.

Every once in a while, the ADHD works in my favor, and I do something miraculous like get to the grocery store before 10 AM for Thanksgiving ingredients. (Dinner hosted by suburban relatives, but I've been responsible for potatoes and stuffing for 20 years.)

Colleen Jones asked me to interview her a couple of months ago during a chemotherapy appointment.

She told me to write one heck of a story. I hope I did her proud.

About always believing something wonderful is about to happen.

Colleen Jones was a tour de force. When you were with her you felt invincible and that anything was possible. She made you a believer.

Did I ever share this from our NYC atlas with you? "What Is a Jew? From Emma Goldman to Goldman Sachs," a map whose specificities breaks down the idea of a homogenous population so useful to antisemitism. Ruth Bader Ginsberg to Bernie Madoff to Rose Schneiderman to the Beastie Boys.

If my house burned down, my village zoning code says I legally couldn’t rebuild it. If “preserving neighborhood character” means you can’t recreate the existing built environment, it’s not actually about the “character” of the neighborhood
This is a phenomenal example of how people advocating for the "character of the neighborhood" are often actually advocating to *change* the character to be less dense and more suburban. Which, if you go play with the city's n'hood GIS explorer, is what has happened all over Boston!

Day 50: Hannah Jadagu - My Love (2025, USA, NK✅)

Breathy dream pop, but fresh and interesting, with cool multi-tracked vocals. #TheTwen2ie5

I'll just squeak in on the HM list deadline - thanks everyone for making it so hard to narrow down!

Whiskey-voiced Annahstasia should be the next weird girl pop sensation, if not the next Nina Simone. #TheTwen2ie5

His recent turn in Swan Song, playing a retired elderly gay hairdresser who goes on a day-long odyssey from his old folks’ home to style the hair of his best former client (with whom he was close but from whom he is now alienated) one last time for her funeral, was perfect.

Also: what someone is eating or not eating isn’t any of your business.
Holiday reminders:

- If someone has a new relationship, they’ll tell you. You don’t need to ask.
- If someone is pregnant and they want to share that, they’ll tell you. You don’t need to ask.
- If someone’s body has changed, they’re aware. You don’t need to point it out.

I was miserable in academia (and no good at the administrative side, which is most of the job) so I figured I'd work for my mom until I got myself together. A decade later, I've mostly taken over the family business.
What’s the lore behind choosing your career path ?

We need it. Not only are the classes full, but also concert halls, libraries - we've gone to a bunch of classical concerts this year as an antidote to despair and guess what - they are full. They were not as full before, but they are now.

"Humanities are shrinking" is artificially imposed top down.
"While other universities report that the humanities are shrinking, at Berkeley, the opposite is true. The music major is the fastest-growing major on campus. We are finding bigger classrooms because film is exploding. English is back to the numbers we saw 15 years ago. We are hiring" bit.ly/4ohKuOe

I mean, it’s not NOT religious, exactly, but it’s sure as fuck not Christian, and it is in large part specifically about how the gilded churchy holiness they try to force it into is NOT the totality of God or the sacred, and that the holy is present even in our tawdry little doomed one night stands.

There was a protest vs tree lighting shitshow of some kind, but we were off in the West Loop eating dinner like fancy people.
