“Your haters become your waiters when you sit at the table of success.”
- Aristotle, Poetics, 2
1. Walking out of sausage party with 2/3rds of the audience

2. At the end of the second hobbit movie, a middle aged guy stood up and angrily declared it bullshit which was truly what we were all thinking
Raising the always fun question: What are your most memorable theater-going experiences?

Mine also include The Matrix, Blair Witch, and being way too stoned in Belgium when Fellowship of the Ring was sold out so we sat in the back row for Mulholland Drive instead.
It was hands-down one of the most memorable theater-going experiences I can remember, a collective 30-minute butt-clench/armrest-grab for the final climb. And we knew he lived! Wild.

I don’t think Bluesky needs polls because they inevitably lead to low-effort engagement farming

That said, which of Santa’s reindeer would taste best?

The most honest way to do this would be to attribute it to the country of incorporation for whoever owns the ship (eg, Mærsk -> Denmark), but it would be very funny to do it by country of registration
CO₂ emissions from the two main "hard to abate" sectors aren't attributed to individual countries, which is kinda crazy.
International aviation (and shipping) are not allocated to countries.

Surely this won’t result in a bunch of subsidiaries of one company competing for the same contract
This is flat out bananas and is wildly inefficient and I have no idea how the hell you would convince congress to fund a program like this

food banks have already been under pressure over the past several years, and with SNAP benefits expiring they're going to be the only safety net for a lot of people

please donate what you can. $100 can feed several families for a month because of the discounts and purchasing power they have

If you work a corporate job, ask some coworkers what they want to do after they retire and a good chunk of them will effectively say “work somewhere else” or “start a business”
the issue here is that while a post-work society would be a good goal for a left movement in the long run, work as its comprised now is essentially part of how people express what they see as their "life-project"
Maybe this is bourgeois of me - but don’t most people want freedom from work controlling their lives?

Guaranteed sick, vacation, and parental leave and controls on the length of the workweek personally sound more appealing than a jobs guarantee.

Me: get told to apply for a job by person says they “desperately need people” and will gladly do a referral so “at minimum we’ll call you”

Hiring system: automated email rejection
