They had me at the headline: AI isn’t replacing jobs. AI spending is

"From Amazon to General Motors to Booz Allen Hamilton, layoffs are being announced and blamed on AI. Amazon said it would cut 14,000 corporate jobs. United Parcel Service (UPS) said it had reduced its management workforce by […]

In 1972, a cat commando unit was sent to prison by a military court for a crime they didn't commit. These kittens promptly escaped from a maximum security stockade to the Los Angeles underground. Today, still wanted by the government they survive as soldiers of fortune.

Yesterday, someone shared a screenshot of election results for a congressional district in Cobb County, GA, showing a democrat winning in a landslide over a GOP candidate. I can’t find any info about this race. Does anyone know anything?

The World Bank’s latest data shows a quiet global triumph: 93% of people aged 15 to 24 can now read and write, up from 87% in 2000. In many regions, including East Asia, Latin America, and Central Europe, youth literacy has reached or neared universal levels, marking one of the most successful […]

The administration declared “Antifa” is a domestic terrorist organization via Executive Order, then they post this fake MySpace parody site on the whitehouse.gov domain, listing “ANTIFA” as one of the Democrats’ interests.

So, they are effectively calling the Democrats, as a whole […]

That's not even scratched the surface of UK based voluntary organisations which make an enormous difference to society as a whole.

@ramsey most of science works kinda this way, except that scientists are paid a salary. Still, many of us give away our ideas for free, while publishers continue to make money off them in various ways (including charging our institutions open-access fees to let us make them more easily available).

I had set a goal for 2025 of selling at least 1 print from my photo portfolio. I haven't yet met that goal – probably because I'm not driving very much traffic to my site.

So if you're looking for real photographs, of which some might even count as art, let me know if anything here catches your […]

I’ve recently noticed that even AI advocates are openly talking about the bubble and how catastrophic it will be when it bursts. They believe it is inevitable now, but no one is discussing remediation to avoid the worst of the post-burst fallout.
