Three states attempted to dissolve their State Libraries this year. None of the legislative attempts succeeded–but they were all done very intentionally.

We will see more of this.

There is no moral equivalence between bullies and the bullied, between tyranny and democracy, or between brutality and decency. No individual can be free in a society devoid of justice. There can be no liberty where brutality reigns.

This, by the by, is an effing disaster if it holds up. The number of public libraries that will go under if IMLS is shuttered is mind-boggling. www.whitehouse.gov/presidential...

Libraries are one (of several) front lines in the war for freedom that we are facing right now.

Support your local library. I'm married to someone who works in one, and even in otherwise liberal city, library workers are struggling. It is exhausting for them out there.

Support your local library.
ONE parent. And in Florida, ONE man is responsible for 40% of all book challenges in the state. The book banners are a tiny minority. Make that clear by speaking up in favor of the freedom to read. (Email your school board!)
Thanks to @aclusc.bsky.social and @authorsabb.bsky.social working in SC to fight bans. The challenges have been brought by 1 parent who earlier filed 97 challenges in Beaufort County, nearly all of them denied. She's re-challenging now that a state law passed in July 2024 makes banning easy.

Just FYI, Tom argued for universal welfare, abolition, public education, state-sponsored pre/post-natal care, family subsidies, & retirement for workers at 50 w/state pensions that would double at 60.

He also considered the American revolution a failure, co-opted by self-serving, landowning elites.

CEO pay is up 1,085% since 1978, while typical worker pay is up just 24%.

Why do we always hear "we can't afford to pay our workers more" but never "we can't afford to pay our CEO more"?

I owe an apology to all James Bond movies. I mocked them for having completely unrealistic, cartoonish villains that simply weren't believable.

2025 has made it impossible to levy that criticism anymore.
