MLK wasn’t a mascot for political slogans. He was a theologian. A pastor. A follower of Jesus.

This MLK Day, we don’t need nostalgia. We need conviction.

Following Christ will always mean carrying a cross. Sometimes that cross looks like staying seated on a bus. Or linking arms in the street.

💯
I've harped on congressional war powers for a long time and we do need to fix all that, but threatening to invade Greenland while ranting at Norway about the Nobel Peace Prize and imposing trade sanctions on NATO is more the kind of thing you can only fix by not having a literally insane president.

Apparently the State Department, led Secretary of State Marco Rubio, the nation's top diplomat, released a strategic plan. Goal 1 is U.S. National Sovereignty. Goal 2 is "The Western Hemisphere and Establishment of the Donroe Doctrine."

There's more, but take that in.

Photo by Pierre Lavie. Yes this is me. And I threw my Leica. It landed on the bass plate with hardly a scratch. Another Photographer grabbed it along with my phone and I was able to track him later. I was held face down tear gas deployed right in front of me and pepper sprayed directly into the eye.

The Declaration of Independence specifies 27 grievances with King George III and Britain.

Donald Trump and his regime have committed at least 20 of those same offenses highlighted in yellow.

Saint Paul schools will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday to prepare for optional online learning.

I’ve seen schools close for snow, for pandemic, for natural disaster. I’ve never seen schools close because of threat from our own government.

A teenage boy was walking home in Minneapolis yesterday when four masked men jumped out of a van & questioned him - with no parent or guardian present.

He was bundled into the van & taken away.

Bystanders heard the boy say: “Can I just go home?”

I don’t know how America comes back from all this.

A few months ago, ICE hired me

I didn't sign and submit any paperwork. I almost certainly failed the drug test. I'm real outspoken about my opposition to the Trump administration, and I am extremely googlable

And yet, there it was, in plain English. "Welcome to ICE!"

My latest for Slate
You’ve Heard About Who ICE Is Recruiting. The Truth Is Far Worse. I’m the Proof.
What happens when you do minimal screening before hiring agents, arming them, and sending them into the streets? We're all finding out.

Two stats I just saw (and double checked)
DHS says they're mobilizing 2000 ICE agents (not sure if this has been independently confirmed given their propensity to lie and exaggerate, but they've certainly sent hundreds)

Minneapolis has SIX HUNDRED COPS TOTAL

Barbaric is the right word
Watch this. 17 years old. Demand Articles of Impeachment be brought against Noem (and others, but we can start there).
This is barbaric. In Minneapolis, MN, 17 year-old Target employee Jonathan Aguilar Garcia, a U.S. citizen, was taken by CBP while on the job because they assumed he was an immigrant. He was later dumped at a nearby Walmart parking lot crying and bleeding when they realized he really was a citizen.

The minority party in Congress runs messaging bills and forces votes all the time that they know they will lose, so they can attack the majority party's members for voting that way. There's no magical difference that makes impeachment different such that you can't do the same thing.
