The comment thread here is the embodiment of :lolsob:

There is legitimate promise to LLM-assisted coding, but there are also legitimate risks. Like this. And no one here is malicious!
One of the many joys of using AI for programming is the creation of huge PRs on complex topics that the authors barely understand, but still suggest "because they work". Here's a great example from #OCaml github.com/ocaml/ocaml/...

Kudos to OCaml's maintainers for handling this so gracefully.

Submitting a 13K-line PR that was entirely AI-written, where the AI inserted copyright headers for someone who isn’t the submitter, that you’re sure is fine because the AI told you it’s fine is so many kinds of broken.

Your choices are learning to collaborate or be a solo dev.

This. I frequently use this in work chats to try to be as unambiguous as possible. If I have to come back to a message like "x happened on y" later, I want to know the year, month, and day for y without parsing surrounding context. Otherwise y could be this year or 4 years ago. Or a Monday in June.
This is probably my one issue where I go full authoritatian: anyone not using ISO8601 should get sent to time jail. (Time jail is mostly about restorative justice but if you don't like time puns there's also a punitive aspect)

So I have a Friday story for you. It’s one I promised to tell before. The themes are “seek help when you need it” and “communicating with family is important” but also “pay attention to how your coms work.”

People are replying to this with “this is more an idiot problem than a tech problem.”

Counterpoint: technologists KNOW that many humans are idiots, and are thus *morally obligated* to design technological systems in ways that attempt to mitigate this universal problem.
AI does appear to be rapidly accelerating human selection of the fittest….

except it’s doing it by straight-up killing people who rely on ChatGPT to plan dangerous trips, not by improving human cognition like the techbros want us to believe:

Signal. Tor. GrapheneOS. People should be loud and proud about using security and privacy tools that work - that's the best way to counter the narrative that only people with something to hide would.

If your dog is shooting people with its electric laser the solution is not to punish the dog for using the electric laser.

It’s to ask WHY DOES THE DOG HAVE A LASER.
