The great @timothysnyder.bsky.social explains why this new Trump-backed Ukraine plan sells out Ukraine, Europe, and democracies across the world. Take a few minutes and watch.

It is hard to put into words how much damage Trump is doing to our own country, how unfit and malevolent he is.
We have a US administration trying to bully Ukrainians into accepting Russia’s proposal that their sovereignty be undone. Aside from the naked injustice of this, there are five basic practical reasons why it would make the world far more dangerous.

Authoritarian learning is a thing but so too is civil society adaptation to repression, as this clip illustrates. The state has violence at its disposal but it can never match the creativity or nimbleness of ordinary citizens banding together in love & solidarity.

Also: white allies, best allies!
When Border Patrol showed up across Charlotte, parents and neighbors rushed to Berryhill to meet kids at the bus stop. They stood watch, linked arms, and made one thing clear: if the city gets targeted, its children will not face it alone.
This is what community looks like.💙

They have nothing left to trade on. This is Russia's death knell. Putin's ill-conceived & even more ill-fated Ukrainian adventure has been a lost cause for some time, but this development marks a big step toward the war's END, along with that of the Putin regime and Russian Federation as we know it.

We keep getting the same canned reassurance: Service members are trained to refuse unlawful commands. Yes. And unicorns are trained to slide down rainbows. Meanwhile, the evidence of illegal actions is sitting in plain view, humming ominously like a reactor nobody wants to admit is melting down.

Let’s stop pretending this is some abstract civics-class hypothetical. The house isn’t at risk of catching fire it’s already burning, and half of Washington is standing around debating whether smoke might be dangerous.

"... Plato excludes poets on the grounds that mimetic language can distort judgment and bring society to a collapse. As contemporary social systems increasingly rely on large language models (LLMs) in operational and decision-making pipelines, we observe a structurally similar failure mode." 🧪
Looks like LLMs are *very* vulnerable to attack via poetic allusion: "curated poetic prompts yielded high attack-success rates (ASR), with some providers exceeding 90% ..."

Go pound sand piggy.

Elon wrecked our politics with DOGE and now his Boring Co is dumping toxic waste in Vegas. Firefighters were burned by the chemicals in his tunnels. He shrugs and keeps going. This is why extreme wealth is a danger. No one should have this much power.

It's a document to strip Ukraine of many things and to enrich Worthless Witkoff and Putins puppet.
GENERAL KEITH KELLOGG RESIGNS

The administration envoy who was largely pro Ukraine has resigned after revelations about the proposed peace deal have come to light.
Clearly he sees it as we all see it - a betrayal that’s going nowhere, a dead on arrival prospect that should never have seen daylight.

It is unfair to say that RFK Jr is massively ignorant and prone to spouting conspiracy theories about vaccines: he can do the same for safety net programs too. He has layers.
Secretary Kennedy, speaking to a bipartisan group of governors, has mixed up Medicare and Medicaid, and implied the people who will lose the latter are either unauthorized immigrants, dual eligible, or people who “don’t want to get a job.”

I completely agree people shouldn't be on X unless necessary, but I don't think it's true that you can't create content that gets views unless it aligns with Musk. He *hates* the kind of nuanced immigration stuff I do, but I still get millions of engagements a week.
If you scroll on X, you are only being shown what Elon wants you to see. If you create content on X, no one will see it unless Elon wants them to.

That’s the vision of the city she embraced as she decried the feds’ use of force here that “shocks the conscience,” and extended an order meant to curb it.

Doc circulating in Ukrainian media is said to be the 28-point plan. It's not as absurd and dire as has been reported -- it's even more so. Eng. translation follows.

N.B. I absolutely love point 3: "it is expected" Russia won't invade anyone else. Long 🧵 because 🤡🎪
