I have literally never heard of Soros outside of being a right-wing boogeyman. I have no idea who he is, what he does, or if he's even real. His entire existence to me is as antisemitic trope for them to blame everything on, and I imagine the same is true for so many of the people that bring him up.
Labeling anti-ICE protests in Minneapolis as "Soros-backed" is antisemitic, insofar as it imagines an all-powerful Jewish puppet master in control. But more than that, it reflects such a poverty of spirit. They can't imagine a city that rises up in genuine solidarity to defend their vulnerable.
