Americans, culturally, are often assholes. It's baked into our culture to be alone, to solve things ourselves. To hurt someone else if it helps us. I've worked in Australia, France, Iran, Egypt, Sweden, Iceland, Canada, you name it. Most other cultures are not set up to induce and reward selfishness
