45 years ago I made a pitch for the Director-General job. Didn’t get it – mind you, I was only 13. But I did get a reply from Ian Trethowan, who was DG at the time. All these years later I’m proud to work for the BBC.

Husband immediately said “they will freeze the headline regulated fares that most people can’t afford anyway. Then all the other fares will go up”.

The Chancellor has announced that regulated rail fares will be frozen next year. A huge win for passengers and the economy, and one of our Budget asks!

Yet here we are.....🤷‍♂️

Yes, our Labour Home Secretary really did just post this on Twitter.

It's not an AI hoax. More's the pity.

I think @entirelyharmless.bsky.social summed up Sex Matters pretty well with this:

"UK media: every time you quote Sex Matters on anything related to trans people, it’s the equivalent of quoting the Flat Earth Society on anything related to space or air travel.

They’re unqualified cranks."

This thread is great. The things people do for science. Also, RIP to a good sieve who died for a good cause.
It’s the seventh anniversary of the publication of ‘Everything is awesome: Don’t forget the Lego’ in the Journal of Paediatrics and Child Health, which told how six “paediatric health-care professionals were recruited to swallow a Lego head” and measure how long it took to ~ahem~ pass through them

Surveys and questionnaires need questions about quality of the survey itself. So many of them are terrible. Just done one for Tesco which wasn't bad, but asked for my clubcard number, but it's in my Google wallet which doesn't reveal the number easily. I had to have a good old rummage to find it.

Twenty years is not a probation period, it is a lifetime. If someone has lived here for nearly two decades, worked, paid taxes, raised children, and built roots, then to say “pack your bags, your country is safe now” is not policy, it is cruelty dressed up as process.

A High Court judge has forced a six-year-old girl to keep the surname of the man who raped her mother. We think this is an outrage and are putting together a legal team so D's mother can take her case to the European Court of Human Rights.

But we need your help. goodlawproject.org/crowdfunder/...
The law has failed a woman and her child – fight back
No survivor should face harm from the very system that is meant to protect them. No child should have to carry an abuser’s name. It’s time to change the system.

OK, I tried AI to give it another chance. I asked it 'In what year was a first class stamp 20p?' and it said it'd never been 20p (it was, in 1989). I tried again, and it said "In 1990, a first-class stamp cost 22.47p" which is also nonsense.
How on earth is this taking over the world? Slop, junk.

I think about the only things I go out of my way to watch on telly (as broadcast, mostly) are Bake Off, Taskmaster and Doctor Who. Followed possibly by Only Connect.

I have loads of things to catch up on, too. I don't know where people find the time to consume box sets and films!
