Maybe thinking this way and saying it out loud isn’t always the “right” thing to do. But without an emotional anchor, life becomes genuinely hard to navigate.

Everybody Wants to Rule the World is definitely the best grocery store song. One of the few songs you can basically hear any time any place and not mind

The restless wind
Has seen all things
In every kind of light
Rising with the full moon
To go howling through the night
The sleepless wind
Has heard all things
Between the sea and sky
In the canyons of the city
You can hear the buildings cry…

Some of us don't have to ask for nudes. We don't even have to suggest such a thing. They might not be the nudes we're looking for, but we get em anyway.

There is no way I would ever care about the Olympics. I won’t watch it, however, if I am somewhere where it is on I will gladly be cheering for any American athlete to lose. Knowingly choosing to fly that flag right now is pathetic to me. I don’t care how long you trained.

Almost every day in trauma recovery is going to be a mixed bag. There'll be moments you feel a little better, & moments you feel like garbage. Our goal here isn't some fantasy of never feeling sh*tty. You just focus on feeling .01% clearer & safer today.

No pressure, no rush.

So maybe what you offer, what you think about, what you can do well-- maybe brilliantly-- isn't what the people who raised you valued or were even capable of seeing. That DOESN'T mean you lack value or potential. It means you need to find your people & place.

No more; no less.

PSA:

Ginzu knives do not, in fact, cut through everything.

They do not slice a days-old bagel refreshed with a damp towel in the microwave before toasting. They smash that bagel into racetrack shaped puck.

Today at work I received a small envelope with no return address, only my work address and at the bottom 'attn: Priest'. I opened to find a card that said "Thank You" on the outside. On the inside, scribbled in jagged letters: I wanted you to know you were on my gratitude list today.

Signed, A.
One of our residents is an older gentleman, the doppelganger of author Frank McCourt. Always with a ready smile and a kind word, he and I became instant friends. He'll be moving on very soon, and I will miss him dearly, and I told him so as I wrapped my arms around him this evening.

Godspeed, A.
