Curious to a fault. Also πολύτροπος. Talking here for me alone. I listen to the finest worksong. Like/repost = bookmark/news, not agreement/endorsement.
P.S. Linguists tell us that the Indo-Europeans (people who spoke the common ancestor of German, Latin, Greek, Sanskrit) had a word for "tooth" [*h₃dónts] derived from "to bite, to eat" [*h₃ed-]. Via Latin/Greek we inherited "dentistry" and "orthodonture." Via German ("Zahn") we inherited "tooth."

I am a huge fan

chiming in to say that it's old term for a particular speciality: "ortho" means "straight, perpendicular"

orthodontists "straighten" teeth (accurate)

in that respect, it's a lot more accurate than orthopedics (literally "straightening children"), which no one blinks an eye at

OMG –– really? Same person? I'll always struggle to understand the inner drive that makes people do this. If there's something concrete, fine. But chasing an illusion –– a "somebody" you're not –– will never end well. You won't find happiness. Only more self-loathing.

nice but also wondering about texture, taste, sharpness –– I've been to Oslo (and Scandinavia) several times but missed the brown cheese

meanwhile Finnish salmiak was suggested to me as a "take-home" gift and failed completely

I have a friend who imports produce. We've talked a lot over the past 11 months. Terrific guy, very kind, small kids at home. A good dude. He's not very "political" but leans rational, hopeful, pragmatic, patriotic, future-directed. We get along great.

How is this supposed to bring him around?

I knew you wouldn't but others might not get it –– gotta pick my spots

sorry I deleted because it felt too pointed (which it wasn't meant to be) –– appreciate the reply

I think that's part of the answer, but misses some need that wasn't being met

I have no personal (much less professional) experience with transgressive behavior, but it comes from a particular coalescence of factors

not an excuse -- just an explanation (unsatisfying at that)

sad to see it, but it is what it is

I have a good dozen (maybe more) people in this cohort

they lost their g-d minds and were handsomely rewarded for it

like so many of these characters, they've spiraled beyond the personae we occasional interlocutors knew 5 to 10 years ago

in many cases, they fomented a schism that's now fully expressed as nuttery

also a metaphor for our beloved Thanksgiving-celebrating country

"trying to fry frozen turkeys" captures the lunacy of our moment IMO
