It's obvious but still striking to consider that we have a United States government driven solely by one man's emotional dysregulation and dysfunction.

I don’t want to depress you all but the entire media and political class will have moved on from this latest Trump racist outburst by tomorrow, Monday at the very latest. He gets away with it every time - because he is allowed to get away with it, and because he floods the zone.

This is a good point, and only emphasizes that how those who resist Trump report RIGHT NOW on threats he and his supports make to election integrity matters.

These threats work by being spread, creating a fear they cannot back up.

DO NOT DO THEIR WORK FOR THEM.
I’ve been working on the Lawyers’ Committee Election Protection project for more than 20 years. This kind of threat happens in almost every cycle and almost never materializes. The threat - creating fear - IS the voter suppression tool. It costs nothing so any suppression it produces is a plus.

Bill Ackman went after academic plagiarism even though his wife had plagiarized in academia.

David Brooks said Epstein Files weren't worth looking at while knowing he'd met with Epstein.

Team Trump campaigned on releasing Epstein Files knowing Trump was Epstein's confidant.

The hubris is endemic.
I find it kinda astonishing all these people who have spent so many years in public life, many of them media/ PR pros, didn’t think to get ahead of these stories. Did they really think it’d never come out? Bowles & Weiss never thought to mention it to ‘Free Press’ subscribers?
Not only is that the very same Nellie Bowles, but she pops up 17 different times in the files!

Because when you're facing a fascist takeover, shouting down a liberal at a college talk is definitely the way.

They could try. But remember how big this country is, how many polling places there are, and how ICE in the streets seems to be encouraging people to come out, rather than stay in.
ICE agents gather by the entrance to polling sites and grab anyone who looks brown or black---as they've been doing---so other non-white citizens get the message and decide to stay home for fear of being tackled and suffering a two-day detention.

Don't fall for it, Senate Dems.
“An administration official gave away the game to Punchbowl News, admitting that these “de-escalatory measures” are about placating Senate Democrats so they don’t seize this moment to demand restrictions on ICE as part of any government funding package.”

Donald Trump Is Frightened
Trump wants to appear eager to minimize out-of-control clashes between government militias and protesters. But he doesn’t want to stop the things causing those clashes in the first place.

In all seriousness, it's a good thing that these ICE goons are stupid enough to keep announcing their criminal intentions to people recording them.

The killing of Alex Pretti and the grotesque lying was an overreach by the administration. They've paid a price and had to pull back a bit. But it's when there's some disarray that the democratic opposition needs to intensify the offensive, and turn a marginal tactical success into a major victory.

Yes, but Trump knows if Stephen Miller goes then the White House falls apart. He's the most powerful unelected man in the world and is essentially the head of DHS and DOJ.
if bovino is out and conservatives are turning on noem then there is a real opportunity to demand that miller resign too.

There's been a lot of discussion about the echoes of the civil rights movement in the protests today, with people obviously drawing comparisons between the strategies, tactics and coalitions that were vital then and are still vital now.

But this post has me thinking about a different echo ...
I suspect right now Stephen Miller and the other nazis are meeting to discuss how a place not as “nice" or "peaceful” as Minnesota will provide better oxygen for their lies and goals of martial law.

i think this attitude — that all opposition is illegitimate and nothing we do can be questioned— is probably pervasive in the white house and helps explain why they keep making terrible political choices
Putin pioneered this. No opposition is legitimate. Regular, decent, “ordinary” people cannot possibly be against us because only we represent “the real people.”

Tell-tale sign of authoritarianism.
