Evidence from MESSENGER suggests that the surface of Mercury is very low in iron; minerals either formed under extremely oxygen-poor conditions, or were smelted as they erupted (maybe both). If you look up Mercury tonight, know that soon ESA & JAXA's Bepi Colombo will unlock even more secrets.
