Wrote and published my first article in five years. Medium reckons it’s a seven minute read, took me about two months to complete but, as my Uncle Harry used to say, ‘It’s a two minute walk if you run.’

For context, Marc’s book took him six years.

Thank you✌🏻

If I’d been shooting digital back in ‘84 (which didn’t exist) probably none of this would still be around. Make a point of printing your work, no matter the size. These were all scanned from just 6x4 prints.

All of the photos in this series were taken on an Olympus OM-30, with either an Olympus Zuiko 50mm f/1.4 or the 135mm f/2.8, loaned to me by my father for the trip. Next year, he gave me it to keep.

The end of the first phase of photographs from the USA in 1984.

We did the entire trip driving an ‘83 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme. It was dark green, a bit like this one. I do have a photo of the car somewhere, but this isn’t it.

Good morning. Lovely sunny day here in Tokyo. Hit a project deadline yesterday so am trying to get myself out of the house this afternoon, for a walk and to take some photos. Probably just locally. Lots to see, even in the immediate 'hood.

Old pic, from 2013. Details in the ALT.

State Capitol Building, Pierre, SD - July 1984

The South Dakota State Capitol Building. Can’t find a whole lot more to say, other than Pierre had the widest streets I’d ever seen in my life.

In 4 years I don’t believe I’ve actually ever driven this car at night, because I had no idea all this shit lit up. Blue lights in the armrests and everything.

Arrived in the post a few weeks ago, but didn’t have much time to sit down with it until now. Another beautiful body of work from one of the UK’s finest documentary photographers. Wonderful production quality from Marc, as always.
