I am struck how few reviews I've read of the new Avatar mention that it's the same movie as the second one. There are so many plot beats and scenes that are exactly the same, with the same characters doing the same stuff, and even some of the lines are the same, it was wild as hell

My dad has Lewy Body dementia. And he's pretty well balanced on meds now, but when he wasn't his rants would sound exactly like Trump. He'd get mad at nothing for no reason and just go off for a while until he settled down. And now that's our president. So, great

It's all very familiar nerd gatekeeping bullshit, but it's so, so funny to me when people do this kind of shit about video games. GAMES. The fun thing you play, for fun. The thing you do specifically for enjoyment and to waste time because it feels good to do
Honestly something that drives me nuts is “baby’s first” being a criticism at all. I loved that E33 was a love letter to tons of games I’ve played. People who are unfamiliar with those games that love it despite not seeing the homage? That’s called being -accessible- and is a GOOD THING.
The thing that's never sat with me re:criticism about Expedition 33 being "baby's first JRPG" is that the people who actually made the game couldn't be more consistently reverent about their influences.

This is as high fidelity as video game cityscapes ever really needed to be for me. Enough detail, fluidity, and clarity to create an appealing fascimile of reality, but rudimentary enough to leave lots to the imagination, and to keep budgets and required man hours within reasonable boundaries.
