Same. This one is lingering.
I don't know why the "Piggy" thing is bothering me so much. It's one more unforgivable thing in a list of 20,000 unforgivable things, but I've been mad about it for like 12 straight hours.

The whole chiligate freak out should end up in history books as the exemplar of how “social” media has been weaponized against pro-social behavior
Two years and two days ago, a woman delivered some chili to her new neighbors. Everyone was very happy and normal and there were no lasting effects.

Just submitted a FOIA request, a first for me, to OTSP for the public comments submitted to a Federal Register solicitation when the now-cancelled National Nature Assessment was announced.

Anyone care to share FOIA experiences with this newbie?

Someone ask Thaler and Sunstein if this counts as a nudge.
It’s working.

I refuse to not be shocked, to be normalized to this reprehensible, foul, dehumanizing behavior.
When asked if there was anything "incriminating" in Epstein's emails, Trump pointed a finger in a female reporter's face and snapped. 'Quiet. Quiet, Piggy.'

Seeing this instantly transported me back in time to when I was 19 and a technician at a local computer repair shop. These were in the machine at the lobby. I can virtually taste the salt and smell the cigarette smoke from the break room.
Somebody must buy these, because they’ve been in the House vending machines for years and years. 790 calories.

I say with absolute certainty that they could give Klein the reins, then be demolished in 2026, and he would still find a way to blame progressives.

The corollary to a watched pot never boiling is that an unwatched pot boils over.

Yes my stovetop is now a mess.

AI in a nutshell.
last night at a bar I learned that they improved pinball by making machines that are entirely computers and they’re much better than what we had before

Imagine if privileged platformed men like Tom spent as much time fighting fascism as they do fighting people rightly saying we’re descending into fascism.
Are you a baby? Were you born this morning? We're watching state and local cops beat the tar out of protesters at Broadview like every fucking day. They're beating up priests. You can't possibly be this dense so I gotta assume you're just a dick
ok I only saw the one dumb take but it turns out that was only a warmup

On LinkedIn the CEO of a company called Hypervision is boosting his AI / "holographic" replacement for actual airport information staff.

A commenter called it dystopian. This was his reply:
"Innovation often feels dystopian, until it becomes normal"

One thing I didn't put in this essay is that I spent quite a bit of time giving this tech a shot. And I'm not an amateur I was a senior software and network engineer before I moved into social scientist. In everything I tried, the veneer of utility peeled back very easily
Opinion on the potential and future of so-called "generative AI" is polarized to the point of hyperbole. But if you peel back the extremes, we're having an important debate.

My take on the ethics of AI.

For me it was Ishmael, by Daniel Quinn. My best friend, Juan, gave it to me to read on the plane on my way to a business trip. When I got to my layover I called him on a pay phone, yes you read that right, and my first words to him were, “now what am I supposed to do?”
performative reading, lack of reading skills, nobody's reading anymore -- NO!

tell me about a book that changed you

for me? the *extremely* ahistorical novel, THE AGONY AND THE ECSTASY which I read at 13 and was like, "Oh, art can be *everything* to a maker, for good and bad"
