This is awesome. Print is such a good way to get around a bunch of distribution (and surveillance!) mechanisms that seem otherwise mandatory in this very gross economy. It is really nice to see it spelled out like this.

It works great for us, and it'll work great for other places!
404 Media is making a print zine! About the surveillance technologies used by ICE. 16 pages, riso printed. Shipping early January. Features reworked versions of our best reporting and a few new things. We're very excited! And hope to do more if people like it:

The Supreme Court, Presidency, Senate and two party system are all quite anti-democratic institutions as presently constructed.

Our institutions are not only incapable of preventing tyranny—they’re currently enabling it.

When democracy returns, we need to reform our political system.

Most writers have a lot of ideas bouncing around their heads and there are plenty of analog prompt aids and exercises, should they need them.

The first draft is agonizing because it's kind of a shapeless mass.

Editing is sorting and sharpening your thoughts, bringing shape to the whole.

It's the equivalent of trying to change up a plagiarized paper juuust enough to fool the teacher.

When you scratch the surface of AI users, their excuses fall apart.

"I use it to give me ideas!... And a first draft... And to edit and refine. But it's all me!"
I've been seeing people say about their work lately, "I used AI in the edits & refining of this piece, but it's all my own words & ideas."

I think people don't quite understand what "my own words" means. If you're using AI, the words are not your own. They are an amalgam of other people's words.

Today would be a great day to ban ALL elected officials from trading stock, don't you think?
