The drunk uncle theory.

You don’t argue with the casually homophobic uncle at Thanksgiving dinner to change his mind; you argue so that the closeted cousin at the kids table knows there’s safe people and better possibilities out there
agree with this (hah) but also think a particular mistake the left made for a long time online, and still makes to an extent, is failing to understand that the person whose mind you may actually change is the one reading the argument you're having, not the one you're arguing with
The secret to engaging in social media debate is knowing you will never win anyone over. The best you can hope for is to have people who already agree with tell you you're awesome. You might great a dopamine thrill from the righteousness of your anger! Fine benefits, all. But you will never win.

So when thousands of women (and children) were being duplicated--including in non-consensual AI porn--it was no big deal. But it took "only a 15-sec clip" of these two famous white men to draw outrage and fear. Gotcha. Cool cool.
It took only a 15-second clip of Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt duking it out on a crumbling rooftop — made by A.I. with a two-sentence prompt and the click of a button — to draw swift outrage, and sizable fear, from Hollywood.

"It’s nothing short of terrifying," one scriptwriter said.
Why an A.I. Video of Tom Cruise Battling Brad Pitt Spooked Hollywood
A 15-second clip created by an artificial intelligence tool owned by the Chinese technology company ByteDance appears more cinematic than anything so far.

These are the oligarchs who seek to rule every aspect of our lives, and the current US regime is doing everything possible to facilitate that because it is owned by them.

@microsoft.com can we get semantic headings in word that do not collapse? Some of us would like to make digitally accessible documents, but we hate collapsing headings. Just make it an option to never collapse and not show that icon. This will make people more likely to create accessible docs. Plz!

@noahpinion.blogsky.venki.dev do you think people have the right to vote with their dollar? Yes or no? Because that's the version of progressive cancel culture you just said you disagree with in your latest post.

I've had enough, and I am unsubscribing from your newsletter.

@noahpinion.blogsky.venki.dev I just learned that, per the dept of justice, 84% of politically motivated homicides are committed by right wing extremists.

Care to update your recent article that strongly insinuates this is a both sides problem?
September 12, 2025 at 11:08 PM
@noahpinion.blogsky.venki.dev getting pretty tired of your both sides take on everything. There is absolutely no comparison between the right and left on political violence; the right call for, insinuates it, glorifies it, and when liberals r killed, ignores it.

@adobe.com it's very annoying that you can't schedule invoices to be sent via email. What year is it and you can't get an invoice delivered automatically? On top of that, you guys don't even have an email I can contact you via. I have to come on social media to reach you. It's unprofessional TBH.

Unfortunately, Bluesky is unavailable in Mississippi right now, due to a new state law that requires age verification for all users.

While intended for child safety, we think this law poses broader challenges & creates significant barriers that limit free speech & harm smaller platforms like ours.
