Un año aquí y no he visto cambios

Vibe coding offers the same promise that Visual Basic 6 did 30 years ago: anyone can "create an app". And the result is the same, they do it... and someone else who actually knows what is doing has to fix the mess 🧹

No aprendo! #ThanksForComingToMyTEDtalk

I'm glad to share with you the collaboration I made with #JAVAPRO magazine. Should we stop discussing about technical debt with top management?
Hope you enjoy the article ☺️

What excellent article! Thanks @whitep4nth3r.com for sharing your thoughts. We, as industry, are blindly following a promise, and focus on the tools, instead of using those tools to improve our job, the products we are creating, and the impact we could have in the world.
AI has always promised to help people spend more time doing valuable work by automating the manual, repetitive, toilsome tasks so that software developers can be free to use their time on "something better".

That's not what's happening.
The promise that wasn’t kept
AI is distracting us from creating real value. While we chase speed and automation, meaningful and human-centered work is getting left behind. Is this progress?

Leyendo este fantástico post the @eferro.net me vino a la mente esta frase de John Seddon: "Peoples' behavior is a product of the system; when you change the system, peoples’ behavior changes".

I'm glad to announce that I will be giving a talk at the @leaddev.com meetup on Feb 26th in Barcelona.
Anna Terés Sáez will talk about her trip From Engineering to Data Science.
Following her, I will share my insights on a topic that's hard for me as an introvert: how to give feedback to others.

I think this is the best definition of legacy code I've ever read: "Legacy code is that code that makes more design decisions than the team working on it" by Ángel Siendones Sillero.

I got this quote from this excellent talk by Kevlin Hennyes: Technical Neglect.

Pragmatism, Neutrality and Leadership
Every year or so, some tech CEO does something massively stupid, like declaring “No politics at work!”, or “Trump voters are oppressed and live in fear!”, and we all get a good pained laugh over ho…

True facts. Our standards and expectations have risen a lot for managers over the past 5-10 years, which is unequivocally a good thing.

Our ability to equip them for the job is...spotty? Let's say it is "catching up."
It's 2024, and most companies still suck at leadership training and development. As someone who's now growing engineering managers, I'm thinking about how to tackle this for my own folks.

Wrapping things up on Twitter. I had considered sharing my favorite tweets here, but I believe it's a good time to start from scratch. For new followers, I enjoy discussing software teams from a manager's perspective, the impact of company culture on employee performance, and whatever else comes up.
