Again I used permanent black pens, a water-soluble black calligraphy marker and a water brush pen with some of the black marker giving off green tints instead of grey. Depicts my view from the quiet seating area in the hotel bar, 2 tables along from last time, through a different doorway to the other end of the main hotel bar. The edge of the mantelpiece on the right goes out of the picture to span a fireplace and join up on the left of yesterday's picture.

The tomb of William Etty RA.
William Etty is York's most famous artist he was born on 10th March 1787 and died on 13th November 1849. He is buried in the churchyard of St Olave's Church in Marygate & can be seen from Museum Gardens.

A commissioned scale model of a malt plant I built entirely from the actual construction blueprints ~1990

One of the few watercolors I've ever done, when I was an art student in Vienna 5 decades ago, and a poem I wrote about this place decades later
A watercolor painting showing a vista of brownish hills, with a castle ruin emerging from behind the nearest one. The handwritten legend says Alexandra Nelson 11-75 in the lower left and "Raueneck before the snow" in the lower right Home I sit in the weeds My back against sun-warmed stone. Tilting my head, I can see tree tops waving above the tower edge and two swallows wheeling against the blue sky You can see where there used to be a floor or maybe a gallery for musicians or a maid stopping to rest and gape at the grandeur below and above that, certainly, of course, a roof instead of tree tips and swallows and sky I sat down here, tired from the climb up the steep mountain path from the Schloss in the valley after touring the public rooms ornate and cordoned, with their discrete signs humble-bragging “Maria-Theresa hat hier geschlaffen.” I think there are offices, too, and maybe an old soldiers home or a cookery school in the hundreds of rooms. And who knows, perhaps a Prince still, supported by the tourists and the salarymen and the soldiers in his 7-room flat at the back of the palace. His ancestor danced in this weedy hall and climbed to the top of this tower looking out over the walls knowing that he owned everything he could see. This stone is getting cool now and I still have to get back down the mountain to the hotel. I think it was once the hunting lodge.
