This is good, and should actually make us feel better.

Justice Ketanji Brown Jackson temporarily blocked a ruling that required Trump to fully fund SNAP because she’s playing chess, not checkers. She sent it back to the lower courts for a reason. 👀

As I’ve warned before the CAGOP will do anything they can to flip the legislature red.
CA lawmakers found money for these pet projects despite $12 billion budget deficit, report finds
Despite facing a $12 billion deficit this year, California's Legislature still managed to spend at least $415 million for local projects to help lawmakers win their next elections.

Especially with what’s going on now by ICE the Border Patrol etc, we can’t let them get away with their tactics.
On this day in 1994, voters in California passed Proposition 187, one of the country’s most anti-immigrant laws. It prohibited undocumented immigrants from receiving public K-12 education, non-emergency public health care and other public services.

California has Supreme Court races next year. But the most concerning right now is the governors race.
Good reminder of where things stand now in the State Supreme Courts of the 3 crucial swing states.

We have the opportunity to make Wisconsin 5-2 liberal-controlled in April.
Who cares about supreme courts?

Michigan
—Dems swept 2 seats in 2024, went from 4-3 to 5-2. A GOP justice retired this yr, so now 6-1.

Wisconsin
—Dems flipped court, 3-4 to 4-3, in 2023. Defended edge last April. Can expand it next April.

Pennsylvania
—Dems defended 5-2 majority on Tuesday.

A lot of voters are undecided for California Governor. There’s no clear front runner yet but after Katie Porter had those outbursts I’m kinda nervous about who would be the true Democratic nominee even though it’s still early.
Emerson poll 10/20-10/21 LV

California Governor primary
🟥Steve Hilton 16%
🟦Katie Porter 15%
🟥Chad Bianco 11%
🟦Antonio Villaraigosa 5%
🟦Xavier Becerra 5%
🟦Tony Thurmond 3%
🟦Betty Yee 2%
🟦Ian Calderon 1%
🟦Stephen Cloobeck 1%
Someone else 2%
Undecided 39%

Affordability was what drove the rightward shift in many states including California. If you are @cademocrats.bsky.social they will have to point out Felon47 and the gop claim to support tackling affordability but they are lying and they have ZERO interest in doing so.
Trump: "I don't want to hear about the affordability, because right now we're much less. If you look at energy, we're getting close to $2 a gallon gasoline."

Great piece by @rickhasen.bsky.social in Slate.

If we want there to be any chance of a real election reform bill in January 2029, along the lines of HR 1 (& there's still room to improve it!), lots and lots of us need to continue to beat this drum for the next four years...
Gavin Newsom Just Proved It: Voters Want Democrats to Fight Fire With Fire

Our work is not done yet. We still need to sue the cagop and doj over their intimidation tactics courtesy of the FOIA and they should be deposed.
California, we did it!

We stood up for what’s right and for one another.

This win belongs to every Californian who believed in our democracy and helped protect it.

STAY LOUD. STAY VIGILANT.

IT'S WORKING!!!
If I had to guess right now (and it is premature!) I'd say the Supreme Court is going to strike down Trump's tariffs.

All three liberals are clearly against the government. Barrett too. Roberts leaning that way. And we haven't even gotten to tax-hater Gorsuch yet.

And we cannot let them walk free.
Newsom: Just today in Los Angeles, Donald Trump called up the border patrol, sent them to dodger stadium and threw a fastball at free speech right at the head, free expression to suppress the vote
