This problem is so bad that Seattle has a group of bike theft vigilantes who monitor sale websites for stolen bikes and help the owners get them back. It’s a whole operation and THEY contacted ME when my stolen bike went up on FB marketplace, it was wild. They were 1000% more helpful than SPD lol
my bike was stolen last January. i contacted the police and told them that i had video evidence of the thief and a gps tag that said where it was. they shrugged it off and i just went and took the bike back myself with the help of a friend
a very funny eye opening experience many people have had about how the cops actually operate is this "hey i have a tracking beacon on this stolen item that shows exactly where it is can you arrest the guy who stole it?" and the cops go like "lol no that sounds like a lot of work"
