This is the "mature debate" they keep banging on about btw. What level of cruelty we should aspire to, with the claimed fear of being seen as less cruel than a country rapidly sliding towards fascism. An ivory tower scumbag
Justice and Migration Minister Jim O'Callaghan said he's committed to ensuring Ireland is 'not viewed more favourably than the UK by those seeking to claim asylum'.

His statement comes following proposed reforms to the UK's asylum practices

Senator Frances Black says she has run out of patience with Tánaiste Simon Harris & the government when it comes to their promise to enact the Occupied Territories Bill.

A key election pledge from FF and FG last year, but progress seems to have halted.

A great time to remind everyone that the largest landlord in the Gaeltacht is now a British company letting Airbnbs.
Watch now they'll call me an elitist for bringing up that lucht na Gaeltachta are often at a severe disadvantage in terms of housing and opportunity and they don't get much support outside of their own community

They simply don't want to work = I refuse to pay them enough / they can't afford to live here because of said pay
Restauranter on RTE R1 complaining they can't get enough apprentice chefs, says they're willing to pay them minimum wage...

... I think I might have identified the problem.

I am trying to look up Japanese powerviolence band Romantic Gorilla on YouTube, and what I’ve found is, a trove of AI shorts where gorillas appear to be caressing, going on dates with, and throwing children’s birthday parties with, pregnant human women

We all know this is how Ireland's new "housing plan" is gonna go right

👀 Irish data centres are now using 22% of all electricity generated in Ireland, more than all urban homes combined & drawing an unquantified amount (lots) of Ireland’s water capacity

Could AI demands be related to recent push to fast-track infrastructure, side-step safeguards & reduce court access?
A new state-by-state evaluation of the projected energy and water use of "AI" data centers in the US. Looks… real bad. Like, "undoing tech sector climate gains" bad.

Strongly recommends immediately ensuring any & all new "AI" data centers to run on existing & expanded renewables grids. Which… yeah.

Not long ago, the lie that seeking asylum and being an illegal migrant are the same thing was the preserve of Nazis, Faragists and the extreme right of the Tories. Now a UK Labour minister - a barrister with a law degree from Oxford - is happy to do it. That's why UK Labour got this endorsement:

Climate breakdown is driven by a storm of lies. This lying is systemic, funded and coordinated, and operates across almost all media, old and new.
This week's column argues that we cannot fight the climate crisis without also fighting the epistemic crisis.

This is why the state needs to intervene directly to supplement supply. They won't though as it's ideologically unacceptable. And that means locking a large slice of the population out of home ownership for the next several decades. Not be accident, by choice.
the answer I get is “supply will reduce price” —as if spec developers are going to keep building & keep selling at a loss for 10-15 years… rather than stalling construction the moment there are no more buyers at their high prices, & sitting on land for as long as it takes for the market to improve
