Green Party leader Roderic O’Gorman says the EU’s move to abandon plans to introduce a ban on new petrol and diesel cars from 2035 is bad news for consumers, European industry and the environment.

He says the big winners here are The Chinese companies who are selling into the EU market.

Ireland has secured a three-year extension to the controversial nitrates derogation.

An Taisce, the National Trust for Ireland, said the decision is "actually shocking".

"Recent EPA data on water quality is unambiguous. We are going backwards," An Taisce said.

On the immigration reforms being brought to Cabinet by the Justice Minister today, SocDems TD Gary Gannon says there is “cruelty inbuilt” in them.

At the launch of the long awaited housing plan this morning - Minister for Housing James Browne says the scale of homes needed is now far beyond previous estimates.

He says the new plan is built around two pillars: supporting people and activating supply.
