I think there's a legitimate social identity of despair in social media where you basically need to constantly perform (already existing but in a lesser form) despair in order to reaffirm yourself as part of the group
half the userbase of this website is addicted to the dopamine hit that comes with "all is loss" bad news. they want to spiral out and resent you when you tell them something tethered to reality.
