How many times do we need to point this out?
By appeasing the far right, you do not weaken it. You strengthen it.
While weakening your own position.
There's a vast amount of academic research showing this.
But Labour will not listen.

What could be more conservative than severing all ties to past?
Overturning Humphrey’s Executor represents the Supreme Court applying the same principle to itself it would apply to the president: whoever holds the job at the moment is under no obligation to follow any of the laws or limits set by all their predecessors

➡️ Creates debt

The only surefire way to stop oligarchs buying up the things we love is to drop those things the moment oligarchs buy them & that requires changing habits and massive self-discipline.
It means going to alternatives that might not be quite as good or convenient.
It’s really hard. But there it is.

If you read most U.S. journalism, the fact that most of our sectors (guns, energy, telecom, healthcare, whatever) has been completely broken by corruption and unchecked corporate power just..isn't mentioned.

It's as if editors think being honest about this is inherently biased or impolite.

it is similar to the trick conservatives are trying to pull with the birthright citizenship clause. take something whose meaning is absolutely clear from just a plain reading of the text and transmogrify it into something that says its opposite through obfuscation and esoterica

This is pretty cool.

I wonder how this might be used to do better climate work — e.g., for addressing emissions linked to buildings, and mapping infrastructure for climate adaptation work?

The Supreme Court will soon hear a challenge to limits on how much political parties can spend in coordination with candidates. And while the campaign finance system clearly needs reform, those choices belong to Congress, not the Court.

My one historical quibble is that sheriffs did not become widely elected under Andrew Jackson -- it was not the Revolution, but rather USA empire and populist democracy.
