Periodic reminder: if you think I'm flirting with you, you're mistaken. I'm aroace and also married. If I wanted a partner my wife is *right there*. I have zero interest in any more such attachments. I'm just trying to be companiable and supportive to people I like. My jam is 100% platonic.
My kid sent a picture of their first without-us Thanksgiving dinner, and it looks like they did a fantastic job. But most importantly, it looks like they were enjoying the day with their found family. So proud. 🥹

Well, that was yummy. Now for the traditional Thanksgiving post-prandial nap.

I am greatly enjoying all the pictures of food other people made, especially cheesecakes which are my own specialty. You all rock. As for us ... we're taking the year off. My wife did make a pecan pie becase *nothing* will stop her from doing that, but all the rest is from a local restaurant. Bliss.

"I have squirrels in my pants."

(Hey, if we're going to over-use this meme so much, why not? That's what most speakers in town meetings are actually like anyway.)

A while back, I decided to do more of my shopping either in person or on manufacturers' own websites instead of Amazon. So this holiday season I'm being *deluged* with Black Friday email from every brand I've bought or store I've shopped at since then. I'm being punished for good behavior.

FYI: Operation Allies Welcome was a program to help vulnerable Afghans, notably those who had helped US troops during the occupation, immigrate to the US. On July 21, Kristi Noem revoked temporary protected status for Afghanistan, betraying thousands who were still awaiting more permanent visas.

This meringue recipe is so wrong that I wonder if it's AI-generated. Most recipes call for at least 3x as much sugar, vanilla, and lower temperature for a much longer time. This is why it's important, when using internet recipes, to check multiple as a sanity check.

My theory is that they had already over-redacted the files. Since the bill passed, they're now scrambling to burn some of the most incriminating files (carefully scrubbing any evidence they existed), un-redacting, and making up the required explanations for the rest.

Wow, fuck this guy. First he says we should dress better, now he wants to take away one of the few things that makes many flights bearable - tasty snacks. Hey Sean, not that you ever fly commercial anyway, but just bring your own damn apples and granola, OK?

Transportation Secretary wants healthier snacks on planes, and no pajamas
In an interview with Blaze TV, Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said he's like healthy snacks, not a "fattening cookie" served on flights.

"Where's Waldo?" but with poop. 🤢

BTW, I've heard some dog owners use thermal cameras for this. Not a dog owner myself, so I don't know how well it works, but figured it was worth passing on.
Dead leaves on the ground make picking up dog poop a more challenging pattern-recognition task, helping keep my mind sharp as I age. It’s like doing nature sudoku. Thank you to everyone involved

Today's #running report: hot and slow. I must have started my winter acclimation, because 55℉ at 94% humidity was *killing* me. Took walking breaks on the two steepest sections, and barely made it without a third. No HR alarms, though, so that's good.

We need to find out who's really issuing these pardons, because Trump doesn't even know these people and for once I believe him. He's just the autopen ... but for whom?

If you're going to participate in Black Friday, at least remember which companies to boycott. Amazon heads the list, but also any other company that has bribed Trump (all of Big Tech), abandoned DEI (Target), hosted ICE (Home Depot), busted unions (Starbucks), and so on. Don't fund fascism.

Uh oh. I'm starting to get a bunch of programming stuff in my feed. Y'all, I left that shit for a reason and don't intend to go back. If I want to see people talking about it I can go to Mastodon. Can we have a "less like this" that *actually fucking does something* please?

Today's #pickleball report: crazy plays. First game I won a point with the last two hits from my knees, one a dink and the other a cross-court speed-up. Really. I have long arms. Second game I had a ball go over the net with enough spin and bounce to come back without being touched. Point for us. 😲

Five mice in two days. A new record, and could still increase.
November 25, 2025 at 3:14 PM
As happens every spring and fall, we've had a series of mice going after a particular spot in the kitchen. The latest one was especially clever, repeatedly cleaning the trap without triggering it. Today I noticed it had happened again, in the middle of the day. 🤬 (1/2)

Today's new-recipe pizza was a mixed success. It was pizza, not glop or cardboard, so that's a win. Reasonably tasty. OTOH it was the *ugliest* pizza I've ever seen, and still a loftier crust than I was hoping for. I still have 1/3 of the dough, so tomorrow I might try again with a few tweaks.
