Went to my local library this morning to do a bit of research for my current book project and my goodness such a life-affirming space! There was an adult being taught to read on the next table, children enjoying story time, countless people taking out books. So grateful for our libraries ❤️

ICE killing #AlexPretti should remind you of police killing #PhilandoCastille. Both men had concealed weapon permits, did not draw their guns, & were killed in Minn. These homicides are the price of unaccountable policing. These deaths are variations on the same fatal theme.

We asked my brother in law, who did two tours of duty in the Middle East with the Army, if he had seen yesterday’s video and he said “If I had done that in Afghanistan it would have literally and legally been a war crime.”

In addition to stress-buying books, records, and zines, I'm also stress-cooking soup. It feels good to chop things up with a KNIFE. If I could stab a carrot or potato safely I'd do that too.

This lady sounds like a badass and she was from Grinnell, IA. May she rest in power and peace.
Edith Renfrow Smith was born in Iowa two weeks before the start of World War I. She met aviator Amelia Earhart while an undergraduate at Grinnell College, where she became the first Black female graduate. After graduation, she came to Chicago. Mrs. Smith died at the age of 111.

That doesn't make them richer. It makes our lives richer and they can't have that.
What if instead of killing people for oil we just put up some solar panels and some wind turbines. You know, the cheapest form of energy

So many people were detained extrajudicially, were tortured, or died because of Dick Cheney. You can't get to the danger we're in now without everything he did. The weapons he helped forge are ones we need to take away from U.S. presidents forever.

Watching the way the Trump administration is using criminalization as a weapon ought to make clear how criminalization works even in normal times.

I’m excited for another generation to have Reading Rainbow. Also it’s weird that Sesame Street will be on Netflix but I’m glad they continue to exist. Both are lovely pieces of my childhood

It’s only been 35 years. Let’s work to not start back at 1
This past weekend marked 35 years of the Americans with Disabilities Act, a landmark piece of legislation that created pathways for millions to live with dignity and respect.
