“Wrong life cannot be lived rightly.”
~ Theodor Adorno

“Shots fired just to numb the pain
There’s no one left to save”

“Tell me all your thoughts on God”

“Hang your secrets
Hang em up, hang em up now”
War of the Worlds, the new one, at least it was so bad it was funny so it still had some unintentional entertainment value.

Falling Skies somehow makes Earth being conquered by alien invaders just…boring. Sci fi flavored soap opera but with really bad music and without the good soap opera parts.

It’s frankly insulting that the worlds worst people weren’t meeting in a command center in a volcano wearing ceremonial robes but were all emailing on Hotmail accounts like “want 2 atrosity? With wemen?”

Seriously if your book is just switching back and forth between different characters who all use first person POV I might as well just read a Reddit thread

A bajillion romance novels and they’re all written in first person with the same tired tropes. I remember why I don’t like this genre now :(

I need to reread the Dark Tower series, basically don’t remember anything after Wizard and Glass (series apex, great book).

Except…

I remember how the last book ended. I hated it.

Hm. Maybe read a romance novel instead, not my favorite genre but at least there’s a bajillion of them.

According to Steven Pinker in Enlightenment Now, wealth inequality isn’t a big deal because the poors are better off now than they used to be.

I’m sure that’s a great comfort to folks struggling to keep food on the table while the uber rich buy up more real estate to rent back for exorbitant prices

Finally looked up what this newfangled “New Atheism” thing is supposed to be and it’s just…atheism? But built into a weird little personality cult centered around “The Four Horsemen.”

That can’t be right, that’s way too stupid.

We probably oughtta figure out what it means to be human before AI tells us what it means and we forget how to question whether AI has our best interests in its silicone heart

We did not properly punish the confederates. We did not properly punish the insurrectionists on January 6th. We have to punish ICE.

They can’t be allowed to slink back into their communities quietly. Expose them. Arrest them. Convict them. Imprison them.

I’m trying so hard to like the Dune book but holy fucking shit does it just drone on and on and ON sometimes. Okay, most times.

The movies kind of drag on too, now that I think about it.

Huh. Maybe I just don’t like Dune.

We teach people how to write so that we don’t lose thoughts worth considering to incomprehensible text blobs that shut down visual processing systems.

This is embarrassingly on-the-nose textbook “psychology of fascism” stuff. Bitter, impotent tools getting to feel powerful by proxy watching brutality done on their behalf.
Tim Pool: “I’m not licking the boot. It’s my boot. I voted for it. I’m the one stomping…”

This mindset is genuinely pathetic.

It’s an alpha fantasy: watching state violence and imagining you’re exercising power rather than the one submitting to it.

It's not quite the most pressing issue at the moment, but the American people absolutely have a right to know the names of the federal officials who shot and killed a man peacefully protesting, who was on his knees, prone in the street when they shot him in the back.

Cultural appreciation versus cultural appropriation versus cultural integration.

Where are the lines drawn? Instructions unclear.

I’m starting to think that water might be scarce on Arrakis but I really hope Herbert mentions it a few thousand more times so I can be sure.

Preferably while giving super long descriptions of how empty the desert is and how beautiful it is in its emptiness and how philosophical that beauty is.

Finished Andy Norman’s Mental Immunity. Sorry Andy, this won’t meet the moment. To keep to your physical medicine analogies, we don’t need mental vaccines right now—we need mental penicillin. The infection has already set in.

Just trying to watch a few press conferences today on YouTube was playing whack-a-mole with ads for gambling sites. Or whatever cute little legal loophole term they’re calling themselves.

If we had a real justice system I probably wouldn’t be watching press conferences full of gambling ads, is all.
