losing my mind at the "she should have followed directions" people

really? really? you're cool with "if you don't follow directions, they get to kill you"? that seems like a good state of affairs to you? that seems like how law enforcement ought to work: instant obeisance or death?

Kate is right—Carney hasn’t done the obvious thing and called BS. Sure, Maduro was/is a huge dick, but bombing Caracas, murdering people, essentially going to war without Congressional approval breaks both International and U.S. laws. Those are facts he should have the stones to speak aloud.
"Condemnations don't do anything" yes they absolutely do! For one thing, they send a message *to Americans* that much of the world does not accept or condone their regime's behaviour, that it will lead to isolation, instability and conflict of various kinds (not necessarily military or symmetrical)

Canada in 2027: why isn't everyone condemning this US aggression against us

Actually I'm not 100% anti-AI. I think that AI has a lot of promise in specialty applications used by specialists.

I think that large language models in general use by the public is not really a good thing for a variety of reasons.

true. that's bc you've allowed your sense of style to be narrowly defined by fashion brands, instead of thinking about it in terms of cultural history. over the course of the 20th century, many groups have dressed well, even if they didn't conform to fashion trends or bourgeois respectability

Spell check existed long before genAI and in its most basic function is not genAI. Spell check is code. It's a function. It checks against a database of available words. Spell check in certain programs, however, may have been made worse by running it through genAI.

I say this with zero irony: if you are even tangentially a part of a retro video game community, it is your civic duty to push back against this company and shun anyone who doesn't. This is fascism tapping gently at the door and as soon as you let it in, it's going to invite its friends.

Creative solidarity means:

If you're a writer, do not use AI "art" or AI "voiceover"
If you're an artist, do not use AI "writing" or AI "references"
If you're a streamer/actor, do not use AI for backdrops, thumbnails, etc.

Never help AI steal another medium

No excuses, no shortcuts, no surrender.

However else you label the Bondi Beach shootings — hate crime, terror attack — they were the murder of innocent people for being Jews, in a place very far from Israel and Gaza.

Fear of copycat monsters will also inhibit Chanukah celebrations all over the world now.

The distressing thing about this is that anyone who's read deeper than school or TV documentary level knows that, in its multitudinous, multifaceted way, the Holocaust was so much worse than I think the majority of people understand
Among Republicans - " The Holocaust of Jews and Nazi Germany was greatly exaggerated or did not happen as historians describe"

This is a huge step backward for Canada. PM Carney’s lack of prioritization of women’s issues is deeply concerning. A feminist foreign policy is non-negotiable in building a safer world for women and girls.
