GenAI is one of the first technologies I can think of that has the possibility of removing one of the biggest expenses in our industry: paying salaries. Imagine if they could lay off thousands and still sell new games. The market has proven, in their minds, that quality doesn't mean sales.

If devs are *licensing* their own tech, sure. But a dev saying “if you don’t use bump mapping / IK / Source Engine you’re a Luddite / stuck in the past / etc.” - why would they care?
IME if someone uses tech that has self-evident value, people scramble to adopt it.

I’ve been in game dev for 26 years and I can’t remember any other time where a specific tech was being insistently and persistently pushed on devs as a group in the public sphere.
Why would it? Cui bono? Why would any given dev have an interest in other devs using tech they don’t have a stake in?

My conspiracy theory about genAI in games blowing up more and more by big companies is that they’ve all got a ton of investors insisting they use genAI tools otherwise they(investors) won’t be able to bankroll em anymore

Just because I'm the writer/director of TADC doesn't mean I deserve all the credit for everything. There MANY times when a board artist or an animator will come up with a detail or shot that elevate the themes/characterization in a way I didn't even think of, and I'm like "fuuuuuck that's genius..."
