These are often oral applications at a Master Hearing, with no notice given. In some cases, when a brief is filed, they're having "law clerks" sign the motions, which is improper.
NEW: A major shift in underway in recent months kicked into gear this week, with ICE trial attorneys around the country asking immigration "judges" to toss out *nearly all* asylum applications on the grounds of "safe third country" agreements with Uganda, Honduras, Ecuador, and Guatemala.

Tempted to apply for the after hours "deportation judge" position just to see how long they'd pay me for my 10pm - 6am schedule of sleeping and not deporting anyone. All decisions reserved until 2029.
After renaming immigration judges as "deportation judges" (not what they're called by law), DHS, which acts as the prosecutor in immigration cases, is falsely claiming that people could do the job part-time "after hours"; except no, immigration courts are only open during the daytime.

Just saw this today. This is a transparent attempt to KILL DUE PROCESS by lying about the job of immigration judge and stacking the deck through hiring only bloodthirsty lawyers who want to deport people.

Worth reading the article here. It's not exactly the sympathy story everyone is making it out to be, given a conviction for rape (potential Agg Fel depending on state) and theft/receiving (CIMTs). Whether he should be detained in such terrible conditions is another story.
