I’ve written something on John Collison’s Op-Ed and environmental democracy

Next time you’re out in Dublin, check if you’re being “socially de-risked” by a friendly face from his think-tank

New Gist: AI, The Sound and Fury

I try to explain all of this AI thing in one article, and suggest why it is hostile to democracy, to humanity and also happily likely to end with the would-be tech Sun Kings taking trips to the financial guillotine.

The Gist: AI, The Sound and Fury
We can calculate the amount of money flowing into AI. But what will the full cost be to society when the bubble pops? This is the Gist.

RTÉ's in-house TV documentary unit is to cease production next year as part of changes at the broadcaster.

The broadcaster maintains this will not lessen its output and these staff will be re-assigned across RTÉ.

Perhaps Harris should shove this in his debate pipe and smoke it.

It says: "Continued inward migration will be vital to maintain growth in the labour force."

Much talk in the media of the number of spoiled votes. Little talk of Catherine Connolly pulling in the largest personal mandate in the history of the Republic (and with some constituencies yet to report).

A post on on the Presidential Election - mainly going deeper into the poll numbers, but also some discussion about what each outcome might mean beyond just this election, and thoughts on the broader conversation about democracy. #Áras25

This "Connolly will upset the EU" stuff is also ridiculous btw. The EU can deal with Meloni, Orban, Fico etc etc on a day to day basis. The idea that a figurehead's words might somehow meaningfully damage Ireland's standing is genuinely deluded.

Landlord Jim Gavin never refunded 6 months' rent to a former tenant who accidentally kept paying rent after he moved out. The tenancy was not registered with the RTB. Gavin really is the perfect Fianna Fáil candidate.

The ballot paper for Ireland’s presidential election is unlawful – and gives an unfair advantage to Fine Gael and Fianna Fáil’s candidates.

The legislation is clear.

Popular peaceful protest is a safety valve and a crucial method of signalling, at least, a plurality of voter opinion on the issue being addressed.

To suppress it is to admit its power and deny that role’s legitimacy.

But no democracy long survives the denial of the peaceful expression of opinion.
