one of our earliest fursuits was Hilda the bamboid, a deer woman dressed as a dominatrix. don't get me started on how modern furries are so reactionary.
also the word "degenerate" is a Nazi dog whistle please stop using it

ChatGPT encouraging people to commit suicide had me thinking about the “government sponsored suicide parlors” next to Howard Johnson’s.

bingo. the filibuster has largely served to prop up segregation and other racist institutions. the senate is already biased toward small state influence, the filibuster magnifies that.

This article alone has 4 examples of ChatGPT encouraging young people to commit suicide, and OpenAI’s own public stats estimate over a million users discuss suicide with ChatGPT each week.

If you have been following the slough of lawsuits and other problems facing OpenAI, you should have at least a little hope that this may very well come to pass.

somebody asked me to elaborate on this: I take inspiration from Ursula k. leguin here. she posited that you can do anything in kid's fiction as long as you weight it with hope. I tend to agree. I think kids aren't experienced or sturdy enough to breathe in hopelessness. teens esp are already there
I also do feel strongly that YA and children's fiction should include some element of hope. but kids experience death, and denying them the ability to see that and work through it in fiction is to lie to them. it's to paint a picture of a world that doesn't exist, where kids don't lose friends

Watching Mamdani's victory speech, I'm struck by his—and his campaign's—unabashed vision of the US as an immigrant society, a culture built from the ground up from diversity. It is a complete rejection and reversal of the search for a white-washed homogeneity that the political right projects.

From bitter experience, capitalism will cheat, bribe, set traps, and flood the zone with stories of 'ordinary people's dissatisfaction'. This win is a beautiful and hopeful thing and the energy that drove it must be kept up now. He'll need your support even more now. Hold the line.
