If Canada really wants to diversify our trading partners globally and bring down interprovincial trade barriers, we should start by adopting international standards nationwide and pivoting away from American ones. For example, elevators:
The United States has the fewest elevators in the rich world, with Canada only a bit ahead. We teamed up with @uytaelee.bsky.social of About Here Videos to investigate why, exactly, North America sucks at elevators.

Ontario has the fewest hospital beds per person of any province in Canada.

Ontario funds its hospitals at the lowest rate per person of all the provinces.

We deserve better.

Current levels of influenza represent a public health policy choice. @ipaccanada.bsky.social chose to demonize masks and fight against clean air rather than admit they royally f**ked up COVID AND buried #FluIsAirborne for decades.

Happy holidays to everyone who's in solitude today. You get to decide what this post-solstice 24 hours is like! You could mourn or reflect, give gratitude or binge-watch, join your chosen family or cozy up with your animals. You may not be surrounded by people, but a lot of us are in the same place.

Bill Marler has worked on foodborne illnesses cases for decades — and he orders his steak cooked gray, never pink.

“I’ve been in too many ICUs. I’ve been to too many funerals,” Marler said. “I know too much.” https://wapo.st/48Rw01P

Remember: Almost all of us are the descendants of immigrants who fled persecution, or were brought to America under duress, or sought better lives for themselves and their descendants.

Politicians who stoke fear and hatred over immigration want you to forget this.

Do not.

Educators are facing more violence than ever in our schools, and putting police officers in classrooms isn’t the solution. What we need are more caring adults to prevent violence and make schools safe for everyone.

🧵1/ Flu is surging again, & patterns look uncomfortably familiar. The lesson from covid remains unchanged: individual responsibility isn’t enough. We need systemic measures that make protective behaviours easy. @profstevegriffin.bsky.social Stephen Reicher & I offer some thoughts @bmj.com

55% of Ontarians didn't vote in the last provincial election. People have lost faith in government because of politicians like Doug Ford.

That's my challenge. Getting out there and earning people's trust. Showing them government doesn't have to be corrupt. That it can change things for the better.

For instance, shouldn’t we be requiring, by law, that all daycares and kindergartens have supplementary air cleaners?

Shouldn’t employees be, at minimum, be supplied with and encouraged to use KN95, Q100 or N95 respirators? I’m not even saying to require them to be used. Just supplied.

Seems like just about everyone I talk to these days knows a family member or friend suffering from COVID-induced heart problems.
Most recent guy's cardiologist tried to blame it on the vaccine.
Nope. Its always more likely to be a recent COVID infection (as it was with him).

Helsinki just went a full year without a single traffic death
The capital city is Finnish’ed with car-related fatalities.
